WESTERN PA BEEKEEPING CLUBS
We at Beaver Valley Area Beekeepers Association promote education and collegiality in beekeeping. We encourage you to join more than one group because the opportunities in each group are amazing. We are fortunate in Southwestern Pennsylvania to have clubs with dues that are reasonable – anywhere from $3 to $10 a year. Even if you are not going to actively keep bees, supporting the local groups, enables them to offer educational programs and information to not only instruct about bees but ways to help native bees grow and survive.

PSBA Bee Friendly City Initiative
The PA State Beekeeping Association has a new initiative – the Pennsylvania Bee Friendly City project. This initiative will recognize municipalities in the commonwealth that are using best practices that encourage beekeeping as well as a hospitable habitat for bees in the community. The committee is currently developing materials to PR this initiative.
Applications will be evaluated based upon the following criteria: legislation, education, pest management, pollinator friendly green space, and community support.
Please go to the PSBA site for more information: www.pastatebeekeepers.org

Chris, one of our fellow Honey Bee enthusiasts, sent in a link that gives a lot of good information on the different types of Bees, Wasps and Hornets. Thanks Chris – Great link. This will prove helpful to a lot of folks who are trying to determine what types of insects they are seeing around their yard.
